He graduated from the National Theatre School of Canada in 1996 and has since worked on more than a hundred film and television projects.

Full Name: Raoul Bhaneja
Profession: Actor, Producer, Musician
Date of Birth 6 June 1974
Birthplace: Manchester, England, UK
Early Life and Education
Raoul Bhaneja was born in Manchester, England, and has South Asian and Irish family heritage. He later developed his professional career in Canada and trained at the National Theatre School of Canada, graduating in 1996. His formal theatre training provided the foundation for his work across television, film, and live performance.

After graduating, Bhaneja began building his television career with Canadian productions. One of his earliest television jobs was in the first season of The Newsroom, the CBC comedy series created by Ken Finkleman. This early experience helped introduce him to Canada's television industry and led to further opportunities in both television and film.

One of Bhaneja's most important television roles came with Train 48. He played Peter "Pete" Subramani as part of the main cast of the Canadian series, which produced more than 300 episodes over two years. The show's unusual format and long run gave Bhaneja substantial television exposure and helped establish him as a familiar Canadian screen performer.

Bhaneja's first starring feature-film role was in Extraordinary Visitor, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 1998. He subsequently appeared in films including Atom Egoyan's Ararat, The Sentinel, Touch of Pink, Weirdsville, and The Right Kind of Wrong. His film choices have ranged from independent dramas and comedies to larger Hollywood productions and thrillers.

Career Journey & Entry into Bollywood

Bhaneja continued expanding his film career with appearances in productions such as Miss Sloane, where he played R.M. Dutton, and Possessor, the science-fiction psychological thriller directed by Brandon Cronenberg. These projects placed him alongside internationally recognized casts and filmmakers and further demonstrated his versatility as a supporting actor.

His television credits have included a wide range of Canadian and American productions. He has appeared in The Dresden Files, Titans, Blindspot, Clarice, The Lost Symbol, Grand Army, The Trades, The Hardy Boys, Departure, Suits, Grey's Anatomy, Rookie Blue, Murdoch Mysteries, and Saving Hope. This extensive television work has made him a recurring presence across North American television.

Theatre has remained an important part of Bhaneja's creative career. In 2006, he debuted Hamlet (solo), a one-person interpretation of Shakespeare's classic play directed by Robert Ross Parker. The production toured across Canada and internationally, including appearances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, and Off-Broadway in New York. His performance later earned him the Best Actor award at the United Solo Festival in New York in 2022.

Bhaneja is also an accomplished blues musician. He has led the band Raoul and The Big Time since 1998 and continues to perform and record. In 2019, he released A Good Thing, a jazz project created with pianist Jesse Whiteley, and he later began hosting Raoul's Blues, a blues music and interview program. His recent screen work includes The Trades, Signal One, and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, where he plays recurring character Chancellor Kelrec.
