Gandhi Talks (2026) Movie Review and Story Overview

Gandhi Talks (2026) is an Indian silent black comedy-drama directed and written by Kishor Pandurang Belekar. The film stars Vijay Sethupathi, Arvind Swamy, Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth Jadhav in the lead roles. Produced by Umesh Kumar Bansal, Rajesh Kejriwal, Meera Chopra, Gurpal Sachar and Kishor Pandurang Belekar, the film was released theatrically on 30 January 2026.

The story follows Mahadev, played by Vijay Sethupathi, a young unemployed graduate who struggles to find work and improve his financial situation. During his search for employment, he crosses paths with Mohan Boseman, a wealthy businessman whose business empire is facing difficulties, and Mangu, a petty thief. Their meeting sets off a chain of events that connects their lives in unexpected ways.

Vijay Sethupathi plays Mahadev, while Arvind Swamy portrays businessman Mohan Boseman and Aditi Rao Hydari plays Gayatri. Siddharth Jadhav appears as Mangu, with Bagavathi Perumal, Vanita Kharat, Usha Nadkarni and other actors in supporting roles. The film uses physical performances, expressions and visual storytelling instead of conventional spoken dialogue.

The film's cinematography was handled by Karan B. Rawat, with Ashish Mhatre serving as editor and A.R. Rahman composing the original music. The production involved Zee Studios, Kyoorius, Pincmoon Meta Studios and Moviemill Entertainment. The music plays an important role in the storytelling because the film deliberately avoids spoken dialogue, making visual action and sound central to the narrative.

Gandhi Talks first premiered at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa in November 2023, where it was presented as a silent film. It subsequently received its theatrical release on 30 January 2026, with ZEE5 later making the film available for streaming. The film has a runtime of roughly 2 hours and 6–10 minutes, depending on the platform listing.

With its unusual silent-film format, Gandhi Talks tells a contemporary story about unemployment, money, ambition and the connections between people from very different social backgrounds. Instead of relying on dialogue, the film uses performances, expressions, music and visual situations to communicate its characters' experiences, making the project a distinctive entry in contemporary Indian cinema.

Story Overview & Plot

The story centers on Maxine Walker, an accomplished American filmmaker who travels to Paris to direct a prestigious fashion project. While preparing for one of the biggest assignments of her career, Maxine receives devastating news—she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. As she struggles to process the diagnosis, she begins questioning her future, relationships, and the meaning of success.

At the same time, Ada, a young model from South Sudan, arrives in Paris hoping to build a better life after escaping a difficult future in her homeland. Behind the glamorous runway shows, she quickly discovers that the fashion industry offers opportunity but also exploitation, uncertainty, and emotional isolation.

The third storyline follows Angèle, a talented French makeup artist working tirelessly behind the scenes. Although she helps create beauty for the world's biggest fashion shows, she quietly dreams of escaping her ordinary life and pursuing something more meaningful. As the stories of these three women gradually intersect, they form an unexpected bond built on compassion, resilience, and mutual support.

Rather than focusing solely on fashion, Couture explores themes of identity, illness, ambition, friendship, and female empowerment. Through intimate storytelling and elegant visuals, the film reveals the human stories hidden beneath the glamour of the fashion world, emphasizing that true strength often comes from vulnerability and solidarity.

Audience Response

Gandhi Talks received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and audiences. The film was widely praised for its bold silent-film format, Vijay Sethupathi's expressive performance, Arvind Swamy's emotional portrayal, and A. R. Rahman's outstanding musical score, which effectively carries the narrative. While many viewers admired its artistic ambition and visual storytelling, others felt its slow pacing and unconventional format might not appeal to mainstream audiences. Nevertheless, the film has been recognized as one of the most unique Indian cinematic experiments in recent years.

Final Verdict

Gandhi Talks is a courageous and unconventional film that demonstrates the timeless power of visual storytelling. Director Kishor Pandurang Belekar crafts an emotionally rich experience without relying on dialogue, while Vijay Sethupathi, Arvind Swamy, and Aditi Rao Hydari deliver compelling performances through expressions alone. Supported by A. R. Rahman's mesmerizing score, the film stands out as one of the most distinctive Indian releases of 2026 and is highly recommended for viewers seeking meaningful, experimental cinema.
