The film combines live-action fantasy with large-scale science-fiction and adventure elements while bringing the characters, mythology and locations of the Masters of the Universe franchise into a new cinematic adaptation.
The film's central conflict revolves around Adam's transformation into He-Man and his struggle against Skeletor's rule over Eternia. After recovering his connection to the Sword of Power, Adam joins Teela and Man-At-Arms as they attempt to protect his family, restore his homeland and confront the forces threatening their world. The story therefore places the familiar He-Man mythology within an origin-and-return narrative focused on identity, destiny, family and the responsibility that comes with extraordinary power.
Masters of the Universe was released in theatres on 5 June 2026, with Sony Pictures handling international theatrical distribution, including India. The film received a UA 16+ certification in India, with the Central Board of Film Certification listing a certified length of about 140 minutes. It later became available for streaming on Prime Video, extending the latest live-action interpretation of He-Man and the Eternia mythology to a global streaming audience.
The story begins on the distant planet Eternia, where Prince Adam is forced to flee after the evil Skeletor launches a devastating attack on the kingdom. Before escaping through a magical portal to Earth, Adam is entrusted with the legendary Sword of Power, the key to unlocking the strength of He-Man.
Fifteen years later, Adam is living an ordinary life on Earth while searching for clues about his forgotten past. When he finally recovers the Sword of Power, he discovers his true destiny and returns to Eternia alongside his childhood friend Teela.
Upon returning home, Adam finds Eternia in ruins and under Skeletor's control. To save his people and rescue his imprisoned mother, Queen Marlena, Adam must embrace the power within him and become the legendary hero known as He-Man. The adventure leads to intense battles, shocking sacrifices, and a final confrontation at Castle Grayskull, where the fate of Eternia hangs in the balance.
Audience ResponseDuring the climactic battle, Skeletor destroys the Sword of Power and appears to defeat Adam. However, Adam learns that the true Power of Grayskull exists within himself rather than the sword. Realizing his destiny, he restores the weapon, defeats Skeletor, and saves Eternia.
Following the victory, Queen Marlena becomes ruler of Eternia while Adam is celebrated as a hero. In the movie's final moments, Adam officially adopts the name "He-Man." The post-credit scene teases future adventures featuring Princess Adora and the return of Skeletor's legacy through Evil-Lyn.
Final VerdictMasters of the Universe (2026) delivers a visually impressive fantasy adventure filled with action, magical battles, and nostalgic references. While critics offered mixed reviews, fans of the classic franchise may enjoy seeing He-Man's iconic journey brought to life for a new generation.
